TREATMENT EFFECTIVENESS
Challenge
Karamay Oilfield, District 3-2, Xinjiang, China. A highly heterogeneous conglomerate reservoir experiencing 84% water cut, preferential water channeling and poor oil displacement across lower-permeability zones.
Technical Solution
A Linked Polymer Solution (LPS) system combining partially hydrolysed polyacrylamide (HPAM) and aluminium citrate was applied to redirect injected water from dominant high-permeability channels into previously under-swept reservoir intervals.
Field Execution
Commencing in 2003, the field pilot covered 13 injection-production well groups. A two-stage LPS injection programme was implemented over approximately 18 months, followed by extended monitoring of reservoir response and production performance.
Result
The programme reported 15,000 tonnes of cumulative incremental oil production, a maximum 6.2-percentage-point reduction in water cut and sustained treatment effectiveness over a period of up to 3.5 years.
Fracturing Fluid Services
Challenge
Large-scale hydraulic fracturing operations across Xinjiang oilfields requiring reliable fluid preparation, consistent chemical performance and specialised on-site technical support.

Nearly 3 million m³
fracturing fluid prepared
Technical Solution
Karamay ZhengCheng provided integrated fracturing-fluid chemistry and technical services, including fluid thickening, friction reduction, clay stabilisation, flowback additives and associated chemical treatment systems.
Field Execution
Between 2019 and 2024, Karamay ZhengCheng delivered fracturing-fluid preparation and technical services across 112 wells, including operations in the Mahu Oilfield and Jiqing Oilfield operating areas of Xinjiang.
Result
Nearly 3 million m³ of fracturing fluid was prepared across these operations, demonstrating Karamay ZhengCheng’s capacity to support multi-well hydraulic fracturing programmes at commercial field scale.
Oily-Sludge Profile Control
Challenge
Oily sludge generated by crude-oil processing and wastewater treatment presented significant disposal costs and environmental challenges, while mature reservoirs required improved injection-water distribution and sweep efficiency.

Technical Solution
Karamay ZhengCheng developed an integrated treatment and reservoir profile-control process, converting conditioned oily sludge into a chemical plugging system designed to restrict preferential flow channels and redirect injection water towards underutilised reservoir zones.
Field Execution
During 2016–2017, Karamay ZhengCheng completed 18 oily-sludge profile-control operations across Xinjiang oilfield facilities, treating 25,543 m³ of oily sludge. The programme included sludge recovery, chemical conditioning, fluid preparation and reservoir injection.
Result
The programme reported average incremental oil production of 221 tonnes per treated well, alongside more than RMB 10 million in avoided oily-sludge treatment costs, demonstrating combined production-enhancement and waste-management benefits.

Fengcheng Oilfield — Crude Treatment & Demulsification
Challenge
Complex crude-oil emulsions and varying production-fluid characteristics requiring reliable oil-water separation across heavy-oil processing and transfer facilities.
Technical Solution
Karamay ZhengCheng developed and applied specialised demulsification chemistry, supported by laboratory testing, crude-oil analysis and field-specific formulation optimisation to improve oil-water separation performance.
Field Execution
Karamay ZhengCheng’s demulsification products and technical services have been applied at Fengcheng No. 1 Heavy-Oil Treatment Station, Fengcheng Light-Oil Treatment Station and Xiazijie Oil Transfer Station in Xinjiang, China.
Result
Established applications across three named Fengcheng processing facilities, demonstrating Karamay ZhengCheng’s experience in crude-oil separation, chemical treatment and ongoing technical support for complex production fluids.

Ji-7 Heavy-Oil Artificial Lift & Production Optimisation
Challenge
High-viscosity crude oil creating artificial-lift difficulties, equipment reliability challenges and increased well-servicing requirements.
Technical Solution
Karamay ZhengCheng applied surface-driven progressive cavity pump (PCP) systems, selecting pump configurations to accommodate different well production capacities and heavy-oil operating conditions.
Field Execution
Karamay ZhengCheng’s technical records document the application of progressive cavity pumping systems across 50 heavy-oil wells in the Ji-7 operating area of Xinjiang, China.
Result
The programme recorded average pump efficiency of 55%, an average pump service interval of 660 days and a maximum recorded service interval of 2,448 days, demonstrating sustained artificial-lift operations in challenging heavy-oil production conditions.
